Calibration instruments are a large group of instruments designed for the calibration of technological processes. Because of their versatility and accuracy, calibrators have found their way into troubleshooting, metrological control, and testing of all kinds of equipment. Calibration of measuring instruments consists in establishing the relationship between the readings of the measuring equipment (instrument) and the size of the measured (input) quantity.

A calibrator is a special standard measure designed for checking, calibrating or grading measuring instruments, installations by comparison.
