Flat cables (ribbon) are multi-core cables, the cores of which are located in the same plane parallel to each other. Each core is isolated separately from the other cores.
These cables are used to connect peripherals to computers and other electronic devices.
Flat cables can have a different number of cores (depending on the purpose). So, the SCSI standard uses 50-wire and 68-wire cables, the ATA (PATA) standard uses 40-wire and 80-wire cables. The distance between the cores in this case is from 0.5 to 2.54 mm.
