Laboratory autotransformers (LATR) are autotransformers with the ability to smoothly and accurately control the output voltage. Structurally, LATR is a toroidal magnetic circuit with a copper winding wound on it, which has an open non-insulated track. The electrical contact of the load with the winding of the autotransformer is carried out using a sliding carbon brush, which, when moved, changes the effective value of the output voltage. Single-phase models allow you to adjust the voltage in the range from 0 to 250V, three-phase models - from 0 to 450V. LATRs are widely used in laboratory facilities, for adjustment and testing of various equipment.
