Photodetectors are semiconductor radio components designed to detect optical radiation and convert optical signals supplied to the input into electrical signals supplied to the output of photodetectors.
The principle of operation of photodetectors is based on:
- generation of signal carriers under the influence of external radiation;
- carrier transfer and multiplication due to special mechanisms characteristic of these devices;
- interaction of electric current with external circuits, which provides output signals.
Types of photodetectors:
- photodiodes;
- phototransistors;
- photoresistors.
