Attenuators are indispensable in radio frequency technology, measuring complexes, audio equipment and communication systems. The main purpose of the device is to attenuate the signal power, whether electrical, digital or optical, without distorting its shape.
Advantages of using attenuators

What are attenuators?
- Passive ones. These are the most common and reliable devices based on resistive or optical elements. They do not require external power supply, are characterized by wide bandwidth, linearity of characteristics and high stability. Examples: fixed, stepped, and stepless (adjustable) attenuators.
- Active ones. They can not only weaken, but also enhance the signal. A separate high-tech class is programmable and digital attenuators with interface control, which provide remote control and high accuracy of setting the attenuation level. They are often ordered for specialized applications.
How to choose an attenuator
When making a purchase, you need to focus on several key parameters.
- The amount of attenuation (attenuation): measured in decibels (dB). It can be fixed (for example, 3 dB, 10 dB, 20 dB) or adjustable in a certain range.
- Operating frequency band: the range in which the attenuator retains its stated characteristics (for example, from 0 to 6 GHz).
- The standard of connectors (connectors): must match the connectors of your equipment (SMA, N-Type for RF; FC, SC, LC for optical).
