Cutting tools - For cutting blanks from soft and hard materials of small thickness, cutting tools are traditionally used: knives, scissors, scalpels.

Scissors allow you to quickly cut fabric, leather, rubber or metal of small thickness, both in a straight line and along the lines of a figured cut. Scissors for soft materials have a blade of considerable length (comparable to the length of the handle), for metal scissors (used also for leather and rubber) the blade is three to five times shorter than the handle, which allows you to apply significant force in the cutting process. Shears for metal are available in straight, left and right types, depending on the holding hand and the direction of the cut.

Knives are designed for cutting soft and hard materials, with a replaceable or stationary blade. To work with high-voltage wires, knives can have a handle made of hard and electrically durable plastic, while there are special knives with a blade for stripping insulation (knife-hook).

Scalpels - cutting tools with a long and thin blade, narrower and sharper than ordinary knives, are used to cut materials of high strength of low thickness and to cut figured holes in sheet material.

Accessories for cutting tools - in most cases, these are replacement blades for knives, scalpels and a working cutting mat to avoid damage to the table surface when working with a cutting tool. The largest manufacturers of cutting tools are OLFA , TAJima , ProsKit , STANLEY , InterMed .
