Protective diodes are semiconductor devices that act as a voltage limiter or suppressor, that is, they protect electronic radio equipment from electrical overvoltage.
Protective diodes have a pronounced non-linear current-voltage characteristic. If the amplitude of electrical impulses exceeds the passport voltage for specific diodes, then they go into the avalanche breakdown mode. That is, such devices maintain voltage pulses in the normal range, and excess voltage goes through the diode to the case (ground).
