Frequency meters

A frequency meter is an electrical measuring device designed to measure the frequency or period of oscillation of an electrical signal.

Frequency counters are classified mainly:

1. According to the measurement method - devices for direct evaluation (analog) and comparison devices (resonant, heterodyne, electronic counting).
2. According to the physical meaning of the measured value - for measuring the frequency of sinusoidal oscillations (analogue), measuring the frequencies of harmonic components (heterodyne, resonant, vibration) and measuring the frequency of discrete events (electronic counting, capacitor).
3. By execution - panel, portable and stationary.

The most widely used are very convenient and accurate universal direct reading frequency meters - digital frequency meters. The principle of operation, which is to count the number of pulses that come from the input shaper for a strictly defined time interval. Such a device allows you to measure not only the frequency, but also time intervals, and the number of pulses. Universal frequency meters have one (two - when measuring time intervals) low-frequency input and one high-frequency input. One of the important characteristics of frequency counters is the number of displayed digits; the minimum achievable error depends on this indicator. Most frequency meters are capable of displaying up to 10 digits, but there are models in which this figure is much higher.
