Types of power cords and their purpose

Power cables vary in the type of connectors:

C13/C14 is the most common type. Suitable for computer power supply, monitor, printer. Load - up to 2200 Watts.
C5/C6 ("microfilter") - with triangular contacts. Suitable for laptops and projectors.
C7/C8 ("eight") - without grounding. It is used for chargers, audio equipment, and game consoles.
C19/C20 is a reinforced version for servers and UPS. Load - up to 3500 Watts (16 A).
Eurovilka (Schuko) - for connection to a regular 220 V outlet.

How to buy a cable by load and connection

Key recommendations:

For computer and monitor - C13/C14, cross section 0.75 mm2, length 1.8 m.
For a laptop - C5/C6 or C7/C8 (see the connector of the charging unit).
For server or UPS - C19/C20, cross section from 1.5 mm2.

Operational and safety features

Do not overload the power cord. The total power of the devices should not exceed the permissible power (10 A 2200 W, 16 A 3500 W).
Do not pinch or bend the power cord. In places of fracture, the veins are frayed, which leads to a short circuit.
Inspect the power cord regularly. If the insulation is cracked or the wires are exposed, replace it. It is forbidden to use a damaged power cord.
Plug it in all the way. Loose contact causes the power cord to spark and heat up.
Store without tension. Do not tighten the knots - use Velcro.
