RPS-60 series – open-type power supplies for medical use from MEAN WELL

Due to the increased requirements for electrical safety in medical equipment, it is allowed to use only power sources that have special features and meet these requirements. Therefore, power sources intended for medical use are singled out separately. Such power supplies are designed taking into account all electrical safety requirements with subsequent certification according to international standards ANSI/IEC/BS EN 60601-1.

Among the series of built-in open-type power supplies for medical use, a series of AC/DC converters RPS-60 manufactured by MEAN WELL can be distinguished. The power supplies of this series have an increased level of protection against electric shock (medical safety approved) – 2xMOOP, a very low leakage current – less than 130mkA and a high specific power with typical overall dimensions of 4" × 2".

Appearance of AC/DC converters of the RPS-60 series

Power supplies for medical use of the RPS-60 series have a rated power of 60W, which allows them to be attributed to low- or medium-power power supplies. The RPS-60 power supplies are designed to be connected to an AC network in an extended voltage range from 90 to 264V. The output voltage is represented by a wide range of typical values: 3.3, 5, 12, 15, 24, 48V DC.

The power supplies of the RPS-60 series are distinguished by high reliability, low cost, the possibility of use in devices with class I protection against electric shock (requires grounding), cooling due to natural ventilation. AC/DC converters RPS-60 are suitable for embedding in medical systems of type BF, allowing contact with the patient. The RPS-60 power supplies have all the basic protections against failure – short circuit, overload and overvoltage.

The input and output wires are connected via connectors located on different sides of the RPS-60 power supply. The purpose of the contacts and the articles of the connector parts are shown in the figure:

Each connector consists of two parts: the contact itself (SVH-21T-P1.1 for the JST VHR housing), into which the wire is soldered or crimped, and the socket – a plastic connector housing (VHR-3N for the RPS-60 input connector, VHR-4N for the output connector), into which contacts with wires are inserted according to the number of connector contacts.

RPS-60 power supplies can be used in any type of medical equipment, but their most effective use is as power sources for irrigators, hemodialysis machines, medical computer monitors of the patient's condition, sleep monitoring devices and others.
