B-G431B-ESC1 is an evaluation board based on the STM32G431CB microcontroller, L6387 driver and STL180N6F7 power MOSFETs. It consists of a main power board and a daughter board with built-in ST-LINK/V2-1. This is an electronic speed controller (ESC) designed to drive a single 3-phase brushless motor (BLDC/PMSM), performing both a sensorless FOC algorithm and a 6-stage speed control, as well as an active braking function algorithm. The ST sensorless FOC algorithm provides a longer flight time and optimal dynamic characteristics. This unit receives a command signal from an external control and monitoring unit, for example, from a flight control panel or similar. For this purpose, several communication bus interfaces are provided (UART, CAN, PWM channel). A potentiometer and a custom button are available for a custom application. The daughter board includes a 5 V battery rectifier circuit (BEC), and the main board has a built-in overcurrent/overvoltage protection and thermal protection circuit. The form factor makes it suitable for small and very light radio-controlled vehicles (FPV racing drones), and the motor current meets the power requirements of large drones.
Features:
- A complete reference design of an electronic speed controller that supports both sensorless FOC and a 6-step algorithm;
- Designed for drones with a lithium polymer battery up to 6S or an equivalent DC power source;
- Three-phase driver board for BLDC/PMSM motors with discrete N-channel 60 V, 120 A power MOSFETS STripFET F7;
- STM32G431CB Arm Cortex-M4 32-bit microcontroller, 213 DMIPS, 128 KB of flash memory, 32 KB of SRAM, analog interfaces, mathematical accelerator;
- Built-in debugger/programmer ST-LINK/V2-1, detachable from the main board;
- The output peak current of the motor (the maximum peak current is tested with a propeller for forced air cooling): 40 A;
- BEC is accessible via a daughter board (5 V to power an external board, such as a flight control board);
- Support for motor sensors (Hall sensor or encoder);
- Supported by ST Motor Control Software Development Kit (SDK) with ST Motor profiler;
- 3-shunt mode is supported for measuring motor current;
- L6387 High voltage high and low voltage driver with built-in locking function;
- Overcurrent and overvoltage protection function (OCP/OVP);
- Thermal measurement and overheating protection with NTC on board;
- ESC is ready to communicate with any standard Flight control unit (FCU): PWM/CAN/UART;
- A potentiometer and a custom button are available on the daughter board;
- Two custom LEDs: one green LED for 3.3V level and one red LED, user configurable;
- Target applications: driver of the engine of radio-controlled vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, electric vehicles or boats.
- Dimensions (including the daughter board with the ST-LINK part): 30 mm x 41 mm.
