Heat shrink tubing (heat shrink) is used to protect cables and wires, mounting couplings, protecting soldering points, protecting electrical connections, restoring damaged cable insulation, etc. Its main area of application is the insulation of current-carrying wires. In addition to the function of protection and insulation, heat shrinkage performs an anti-corrosion role and a sealing function.
Heat shrink tubing has the property of changing diameter under the influence of high temperature. When heated above 80 degrees (for example, using a hot air gun), the tube shrinks and decreases in diameter, tightly wrapping around the insulating object. Manufacturers produce heat shrink tubing in a variety of colors. This allows you to use them not only as insulation, but also as a color marking of various products.
When choosing a heat shrink tube, you should pay attention to such parameters as:
- shrinkage coefficient, it can be from 2 to 6
- the presence of an adhesive layer
- resistance to aggressive environment
- color.
When choosing the tube diameter, it should be assumed that the diameter of the fully shrink tube must be less than the minimum diameter of the product to be insulated.
