Reactive power compensation is the process of balancing reactive power in the power grid to reduce power losses. One of the sources of compensating devices is a phase capacitor , which corrects the power of both two and three-phase lines. Capacitors are hermetically sealed aluminum cases with shockproof terminals, self-healing and high pressure shutdown.
The selection of a component is made according to its characteristics, namely, its power (kvar), operating voltage (V), rated capacitance (uF), rated current (A), and the number of phases. The products of both Russian production and the foreign company Epcos have proven themselves well. To increase the power factor, stepwise inclusion of capacitors is used. In this version, a power factor correction controller is used, which switches the capacitors in steps, and also measures the effective value of the power factor.
The B 44066-R series controller ( Epcos ) has a multifunctional display, processor control, PC connection. A contactor will help to limit the starting current at the moment of connecting the capacitors, in which the auxiliary group of contacts includes the initial group of capacitors in advance, i.e. performs a phased inclusion of components. The choice of a contactor (starter) is made according to the allowable power (kvar), rated voltage (V) and current (A).
