A signal generator is a device designed to receive a signal with certain specified characteristics. A signal generator, or signal source, is a source of an influencing signal, which, together with a recording device (oscilloscope, logic analyzer), allows you to create a complete measurement solution. The signal generator works according to its name, i.e. generates signals used as influencing signals in the process of measuring the parameters of electronic devices. An oscilloscope or analyzer can only take measurements if it is receiving a signal. But there are many examples when such a signal is absent until an external signal is applied to the device under study.
Depending on the configuration, according to the shape of the output signal, the generators can be divided into: sinusoidal signal generators, rectangular pulse generators, function generator (rectangular, triangular and sinusoidal pulses), noise generator.
According to the frequency range, generators can be divided into low-frequency and high-frequency.
Signal generators are widely used, but in the context of electronic measurement, they can be roughly divided into several main categories: verification, performance measurement, and limit testing.
