SCP Series – Basic level uninterruptible power supplies from MEAN WELL


One of the important requirements for the functioning of a number of systems is to ensure uninterrupted power supply (Uninterruptible Power Supply, UPS), that is, switching to power from a backup source, usually from a rechargeable battery (battery) in case of a short-term shutdown or failure in the power supply network. In cases where the end systems are powered by a DC voltage source with power redundancy, such a source is commonly referred to as a power supply unit with UPS function.

The SCP power supply is a case-type AC/DC converter, with the possibility of connecting a lead-acid battery, with monitoring of the voltage state of the AC OK input circuit and temperature compensation function. The output voltage of the models in each series is optimized for use with rechargeable batteries – 12 and 24V, the rated power of the power supplies is determined by the series – 35, 50, 75W.

Distinctive features of power supplies with UPS function of the SCP series are – small overall dimensions, technological protective metal casing that allows you to embed the power supply in any end equipment, and all the main types of protection: from short circuit, overload, overvoltage, and reverse polarity when connecting the battery (built-in fuse). The output voltage is optimized for the use of lead-acid batteries – 13.8V or 27.6V, has an adjustment within +15 ... -5%.

The battery is actually connected to the output of the AC/DC converter (via diode isolation), so when the power goes out, the load continues to receive current from the battery, that is, the power is reserved. When power is restored via the power supply network, the current of the AC/DC converter consists of the load supply current and the battery charge current, but the overload protection is not triggered. Thus, when choosing a series of SCP power supply by power, it is important to take into account that the power supply will not only power the load itself, but also charge the battery in case of its discharge, therefore an additional reserve is needed. The absence of a separate charger as part of the power supply (and a separate channel) for the battery significantly reduces its cost, and determines the level of this UPS power supply as basic or initial.

The temperature compensation function in SCP power supplies provides automatic adjustment of the output voltage depending on the ambient temperature at the location of the sensor (NTC thermistor 100K), which allows you to ensure the optimal battery charge voltage when temperature conditions change. SCP series power supplies can be used as an embedded power source in devices of security systems, emergency lighting, loudspeaker notification, monitoring, industrial automation, and in other applications.
