Flash memory is a type of solid state semiconductor nonvolatile writable storage.
Flash memory was invented by Toshiba engineer Fujio Masuoka in 1984.
The name "flash" was suggested by Fujio's colleague, Shoji Ariizumi, because the erasure process of the memory contents reminded him of the flash of a camera.
